What to do in Padang City

Padang city is the gate to proceed West Sumatera as the whole destinations. But, the main city in West Sumatera that you need to explore a couple hours before depart to another place near by. Why?. Interesting questions and need more steps to explore at the same time. You will enjoy and how great this city in long time a go at dutch colonial era and beautiful place with nature. The things to do in Padang city and grab a new chapter of your holiday.



1. Old building at Muaro Padang.


The ancient buildings are standing at Muaro. The situation of all buildings was effected by earthquake a couple years ago and do not have much maintenance of the building as the whole. But, you can see the silent witness how great Padang in that time. In dutch colonial era, all buildings become the masterpiece of Padang victory how astonishing this city become a trade for dutch colonial to brings any kinds of spice, coal, and other important items for living including ductch, local people. Let's say the export-import .







Today, All of the buildings was focused for local chinese warehouse. The state holder of goverment need to rebuild again or reconstruct all buildings as the previous concept. Until now, there are no much progress but they have good will to do that. We believe, the concepts are really amazing to make old-town around "muara" by goverment.


2. Pelabuhan Muaro (Muaro Bay).


In dutch colonial, The muaro bay was important place for any kind of ships to anchor and brings any kinds of spices, coal, and other important items for dutch colonial and local people. The silent witness until now you can see is the ancient building that supporting bay as the whole. The location of muara bay is nearly Siti Nurbaya bridge.


3. Jembatan Siti Nurbaya (Siti Nurbaya Bridge).


Siti Nurbaya was a folktale. The situation in dutch colonial era. The focus of this folktale is Siti Nurbaya to push to married a rich man that she didn't love him. But, her parent have so much debt to this man. She must married him to pay off her father debt. Really hurt.


To make this folktale still exist for century, local goverment made this bridge to support tourism board. When you are standing at bridge, you can see beautiful boat anchor around the river and astonishing ancient building out there.


4. China Town.


China town is near by of the ancient building and Siti Nurbaya bridge. You can see the clocal chinese trade at traditional market called "Tanah Kongsi" and beautiful culinary. For muslim people need to pay attention of Halal food around the market and must have the selections of the menus. Because, most of people are chinese that do not really aware about Halal. What kind of food you want to eat. The price is really helpful for your pocket. 



Around china town available of the pagoda and other chinese ornament. You can capture beautiful photo and grab the astonishing atmosphere.


5. Adityawarman Museum.


Adityawarman Museum is the culture museum in West Sumatera province that located in Padang city. This museum is established march 16, 1977 that taken name by a king Malayapura in 14th century. Adityawarman as the same at Majapahit kingdom. Another name of this museum is the West Sumatera miniature.



The collections of Adityawarman Museum are consist of ten different kind of items. They are geological, biological, etnografis, archeology, historical, numismatic, filological, fine art, ceramiclogical, and technological. The museum located at JL Diponegoro, Belakang Tangsi. The museum has the main room that showed the situation of culture system that have been embedded by local people. With the presentation in perfect structure that have strong relationships in culture wisdom of Minangkabau. Actually, the culture of Minangkabau is totally different with other city in Indonesia. Most of them absorb a close communion of patrilineal but here in Minangkabau itself matrilineal system. The women is more powerful influence in social traditions.

6. Earthquake Monument.


In 2009, West Sumatera was a natural disaster in earthquake. The time was 17:16 dated September 30, 2009. The earthquake shock at 7,9 Recther scale. All of the infrastructures was damaged and fall down and almost terrible effect for people and other amenities. To respect all of victims, the goverment created a monument. The earthquake monument. So, you can see how many people died in this earthquake and we will pray for a while when you visited there.
   

7. Pantai Air Manis (Air Manis beach).


The amazing beach around Teluk Bayur is Pantai Air Manis. If you want to see another day in Padang, this is great idea to try. Why?. Pantai Air Manis is stayed with "Batu Maling Kundang Monument". The monument was a folktale by local people that showed  a son really seditious to his mother who do not admitted her as his parent. Just a little story of Maling Kundang. Actually, He is a local man who have limited condition in life. His family was poor condition and need to change his life to wander to another city. His prayed was possible come after he grow up. And he did it. Time goes so quicky, the situation was changed and he come back to his vilage with beautiful women is standing beside him. When entering his vilage with so luxury ships and other amenities, his mother come to see him and say "I am your mother Malin". With arrogant attutude he denied and rejected her as his parent. Suddently, his mother pray to God to curse him become a stone with all of his wealth. And perfect applied. 









All of Maling Kundang wealth in stone you can see until now. The massage to all of people to do not hurt your mother without any condition at all. Just give her hand if she need you so badly.

If you are so lucky when the sea is low-tide, you can walk-away so freely to "Pulau Pisang". A small island that widely around 1 ha that located near by Pantai Air Manis. But remember, you can't stay long time here in the island, because in couple hours the tide-over will be come. So just enjoy in short time. Beautiful place to play around the island.


8. Teluk Bungus.


Teluk Bungus is a crossing place to another island that using by ferry. This place is located near by Pantai Nirwana (Nirwana beach) and Pantai Carolina (Carolina beach). You can see the local people activity and good place to capture any kind of angle. Such as the anchor place, the other country side.


9. Menara Mercusuar Bukit Lampu (Lighhouse).


Bukit lampu is the perfect place to see and enjoy the sea at top of the lighouse. The beautiful views of Teluk Bayur and Teluk Bungus at the same time you can capture. When the weather is perfect, beautiful island also clearly. The dimension of the lighhouse is 10 meters high.


10. Pantai Nirwana Padang (Nirwana Beach).


The journey to Pantai Nirwana Padang is go straight to south of Padang. Just passing through Padang-Bengkulu road that was traffic by trucks. A little traffic but we can handle it. The trip is so amazing with beautiful sea view when you drive a car. This is part of Teluk Bungus. You can see the monkey that standing over roadside, you can feed them with peanuts or other snack crips. After feed all monkeys done, taking a couple hours Pantai Nirwana Padang is coming. You can enjoy beautiful landscape and playing in the beach. Remember, in weekend the situation is full booked by people to bring all families to enjoy beautiful beach and all amenities. So, you can manage time in weekdays.

11. Pantai Carolina Padang (Carolina Beach).


The beach just near by to Pantai Nirwana. The location is perfect with white sand and coconut trees standing around. If you want to surf around this beach, you can ask local people or tour guide how you can do that. The beautiful coral reef and all kind fish inside the sea. You can forget this moment and want to come back again.
